CONNECTOME: Immersive Art Experience (VR)
A short description:
CONNECTOME (pronounced Kəˈnɛktoʊm) is an immersive VR art experience created by technologist and artist Grant Hinkson, published on the Meta Quest platform in May 2025. Designed to evoke mystery, awe, and child-like wonder, CONNECTOME is built on two simple interactions: “pinch-to-reveal” and “drag-to-connect”. These hand-based interactions are used to bring simple geometric primitives to life through a series of vibrant, minimalist rooms.
When presented at live demos (e.g. Pacific Science Center, Seattle Indies Expo) participants experience the “first run” room, where they learn core interaction patterns and get a sense of scale and immersion currently only possible in VR. Throughout CONNECTOME, participants encounter geometry shaped by mathematical ratios — the same proportions found in nature, architecture, and design. The Fibonacci Circles in the Pink Loop offer a direct example of this mathematical grounding: concentric circles whose radii follow the golden ratio (phi), each revealed and scaled into view individually through direct manipulation.

Experiencing CONNECTOME
Since launch, I’ve demoed CONNECTOME at conferences, festivals, art events and private showings, including: AWE 2025 (Augmented World Expo) in Long Beach, CA, the Seattle Indies Expo (SIX), SLICE (Seattle Indies conference), The Vestibule in Ballard, and coming soon to the Pacific Science Center.
